Cultivation States - Andhra Pradesh AP to spend Rs 5,000 cr on co-op farming Our Bureau Hyderabad, July 5 The Andhra Pradesh Government has announced that cooperative farming would be taken up with a total spend of Rs 5,000 crore in 50 villages across the State. Annoncing this here on Sunday, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said that two-three villages in each district would be identified for cooperative farming. He said the idea was to help the farmers set up a small-time enterprise by giving them the advantage of economies of scale by pooling up land available in the village. ‘Advantages’In an open letter written to farmers, he said they could see for themselves the advantages of collective farming. “The number of small land holdings shot up to 1.2 crore as against 30 lakh 60 years ago. About 80 per cent of farmers own less than two acres each. Estimates peg the number of holdings at two crore after 10 years with population growing significantly,” he said.
