KCCI seeks facilities for Dakshina Kannada

Our Bureau

Mangalore, July 5 The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has appealed to the Union Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, to improve infrastructure facilities in Dakshina Kannada.

In a pre-Budget memorandum addressed to the Minister, copies of which were released to the media here, the KCCI President, Mr Srinivas S. Kamath, said the approximate annual tax payment by the district to the Central Government is around Rs 7,750 crore.

This is over and above the taxes paid to the State by the district.

In spite of this, previous budgets have hardly made any mention about proposing projects to the district or taking up infrastructure developments in the district, he said. Infrastructure development took place only during the 1950s and mid-60s, Mr Kamath added.

The memorandum urged the Central Government to give certain facilities and sanction certain projects for the planned development of the district.
