No immediate curbs on power supply: KSEB

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, July 5 The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has no immediate plans to impose restrictions on power supply despite deficient monsoon rains. The board is, however, worried of two things; the monsoon has so far been deficient by 29 per cent and there has been a sudden drop in the availability of power from the central generating stations last week.

The availability of power from the Central stations came down to 650 MW from 900 MW that it has been receiving of late.

The gap in the availability can be filled by running the hydro-electric stations in full steam, which is not desirable in the context of poor rains and by buying expensive power from outside sources. According to a KSEB official, the drop in availability from the Central stations is now a common problem faced by all the southern States.

A positive development is that the monsoon is gaining momentum and the reservoirs are getting good inflows.
