Industry & Economy - Disinvestment
Centre hopes to net Rs 1,854 cr from NHPC, OIL divestment

K. R. Srivats

New Delhi, July 5 The Centre expects to realise at least Rs 1,854 crore from the planned ‘offer for sale’ in National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Ltd and Oil India Ltd during fiscal 2009-10.

Both the companies are likely to complete their public offerings in the current financial year, official sources said.

The Government wants to disinvest a small portion of equity out of its shareholding in these two companies along with their public offerings.

The disinvestment proceeds would be parked in the national investment fund. Meanwhile, the public offering of RITES Ltd has been deferred for now. Earlier, NHPC, Oil India and RITES had proposed to make public offering of equity.

The Budget could see some big ticket announcement on the disinvestment front.
