Our Bureau New Delhi, July 8 The Department of Telecom (DoT) may impose a fine on Bharti Airtel after vigilance officers found that a number of subscribers in Delhi were being offered services without proper verification. The vigilance officers have reported that two companies had taken bulk connections from Bharti Airtel and were further renting out these mobile connections to individuals. The two companies — Falcon Business Resources and Galaxy Rent-a-Tel — were allegedly using their own customer application forms and were offering their own tariffs which were not approved by the telecom regulator. According to DoT rules, only licensed mobile operators can offer tariff plans and collect money from subscribers. The two companies were also providing customer care, fixing roaming rates and offering support services. The DoT has taken a view that this has caused losses to the national exchequer since the revenue collected by the two firms were not reflected in Bharti’s income-based on which the operator pays the annual licence fees. When contacted, a Bharti Spokesperson said, “We have not received any communication in this regard and hence will not be able to offer any comment.” More Stories on : Textiles | Regulatory Bodies & Rulings | Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd
