Mixed reaction to Budget

Madurai, July 8

The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association (TFMA) has welcomed many of the announcements in the Union Budget. In a statement, Mr P. Subashchandrabose, said the abolition of fringe benefit tax, commodity transaction tax, increase in exemption slab for senior citizens, the hike in exemption in personal income-tax, increase in exemptions slab for women, increased allocation for higher education and so on, were all welcome. However, he expressed disappointment over the ab sence of an announcement on reversal of the service tax on lorry freight imposed on traders and the Amnesty scheme, to bring back the money stashed in foreign countries and banks.
