Opinion - Letters
Revenue-neutral

The Budget is revenue neutral in several senses. The increase in MAT and the scrapping of the FBT will prove revenue-neutral, both for the Government and companies.

The income-tax ceiling has been raised and the surcharge removed but perquisites are now taxable; this is revenue-neutral for tax-paying individuals.

However, as Mr Lalu Prasad once pointed out, “neutral me gaadi aage nahi jayegi” (one cannot move forward in neutral gear!).
