Thiruvananthapuram, July 9

The Vallarpadam container terminal near Kochi is slated to be commissioned by November this year, according to the Minister for Industries, Mr Elamaram Kareem.

He said in reply to questions in the State Assembly on Thursday that the terminal, when commissioned, would help the industrialists in the country earn Rs 600 crore annually in terms of imports and exports.

The Minister said in response to a question that the Government had appointed Ernst and Young to work out a diversification programme for Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron).

The company has completely wiped out the accumulated losses and recorded an operational profit of Rs 175 crore last year. During the current year, the profit is expected to go up to Rs 240 crore. It has received orders worth Rs 75 crore for production of mines from the Defence Ministry.
