Industry Associations States - Tamil Nadu Training programme for industry assns Our Bureau Chennai, July 9 The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), along with the Consolidated Project for SME Development of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), on Thursday commenced a six-day training programme for industry associations. The programme would enable the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to go global by fostering international partnerships. The training session will be based on Computer Model for Feasibility Analysis and Reporting, which will help validate company proposals that have to be recommended by the associations for prospective joint ventures. Dr James Daniel Paul, Senior Expert, UNIDO, said the programme will enable associations to offer value-added handholding service to their members. The Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufactures’ Association, the Indian Finished Leather Manufacturers’ Association and the Indian Shoe Federation are participating in the programme. Mr Rajiv Rai, Co-Chair, Task Force on International Business Promotion & Networking and Chairman, RKKR Steels Ltd, said it is important for the industry associations to introduce members to global business community. Supportive evaluation tools are vital for matchmaking. SMEs can grow to the next level only by expansion through partnerships for market expansion, technology transfer and consolidation. Taking a cue from RKKR Group, he said the companies could move up in value chain better due to the strategic partnerships and working relationships with few organisations in the USA, UK and Japan. UNIDO’s tool would help SMEs to move to the next level. Ms Madhu Vasanthy, Director, CII Southern Region, said tools provided by UNIDO would enable the associations to strengthen internal risk mitigation mechanism.
