Our Bureau Mumbai, July 9 Tata Steel UK’s subsidiary, Corus, has identified 336 jobs at its Scunthorpe site in north-east England as being at risk. This follows its proposals to improve competitiveness here by aligning employment cost with anticipated demand, a statement from Corus said. According to the company, consultations with employees and representatives began on Thursday and, wherever possible, it would seek voluntary redundancies, while at the same time ensuring critical skills were retained. Support packages would be available to those leaving the company. While announcing Tata Steel’s annual results in Mumbai last month, the management said that to minimise the impact of demand contraction in Europe, Tata Steel UK had initiated a consultation process to cut over 2,000 jobs. Mr Kirby Adams, Chief Executive Officer, Tata Steel Europe (Corus) had then said, “Some 1,500 job cuts will be in the company’s production facilities, 800 at the engineering steel sites mainly in Rotherham and Stocksbridge, 370 at Corus Tubes in the UK and the Netherlands and 375 at downstream rolling and finishing plants in Teesside and Scotland.” More Stories on : Human Resources | Steel | Tata Steel Ltd
