New Delhi, July 9 There has been a marginal increase in the number of foreign tourist arrivals to India in June as compared to the same period in the previous year.

A senior Tourism Ministry official said the number of tourist arrivals in June stood at 3,40,839, up from 340,159 in June last year. It is after a gap of eight months that foreign tourist arrivals have shown a growth, however marginal it may be, officials said.

“We have to be realistic about the number of tourist arrivals that India will record during the full year,” the official said when asked whether the country is likely to report an increase or decrease in foreign tourist arrivals during 2009 compared with 2008.
