Human Resources Industry & Economy - Gender Mandatory to have one woman in selection panel: Govt Our Bureau New Delhi, July 9 The Department of Personnel Training (DoPT), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has said that it is mandatory to have at least one woman member in the selection committees or boards where recruitments are being done for 10 or more vacancies. The Government directive has asked all ministries and departments to ensure a better representation of women members on various committees and boards concerned with the selection of posts in the Central Government. DoPT has sent such instructions to all appointing authorities, including the Union Public Service Commission and the Staff Selection Committee, to observe such guidelines and also monitor the trends in the recruitment of women. The directive added that if the vacancies are less than 10, a woman member for the selection committee may not be mandatory, but no effort should be spared for finding such an officer even then. In case a woman officer cannot be found within the same ministry or department, a lady officer can be appointed from any other office at the same station. Govt appointmentsIt also said that wide publicity is to be given for all appointments in the Government. Moreover, advertisements are to be issued in the local language of the area, besides English and Hindi. All ministries and departments are to submit a consolidated report on the total number of posts and employees, according to group and gender by next month-end.
