Juniper takes on rivals with new products, services

Thomas K. Thomas

New York, Oct. 30 In a bid to take on its arch rivals such as Cisco and Alcatel Lucent in the enterprise and service provider segments, Juniper Networks unveiled a slew of initiatives including its next generation silicon, new software platform, higher performance network gear and new partnerships.

The company announced new networking systems, which claims to help networks to support more bandwidth, subscribers and services.

“Compared to rivals’ products Juniper’s systems increase ROI (return on investment) over five years by up to 540 per cent, reduce operating expenses for aggregation services up to 47 per cent, reduce operating expenses for business services up to 63 per cent and improves power efficiency by a factor of 10-to-1 versus other vendors,” said Mr Pradeep Sandhu, Chief Technical Officer and Co-founder, Juniper Networks.

For subscribers, this means the system enables download of 8.5 million iTunes in one-tenth of a second, 50 Blu-Ray DVDs in less than five seconds, 10 years of Hubble Telescope data in one minute or more than 430,000 HDTV channels simultaneously, he added.

Juniper also unveiled an open cross-network software platform that allows customers to directly programme multiple layers of their networks. The platform is open to third party developers to build applications on top of it.

Juniper is also revamping its India operations with a new country head and improved go-to-market strategy.

“India is a key market for us but we haven’t been able to do as well as we would have liked to in that market. The appointment of Mr Ravi Chauhan as the new Managing Director of Juniper’s India and SAARC operations is in line with our strategy to tap into new segments. We are also revamping our marketing in India,” said Mr Manoj Leelanivas, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, Edge and Aggregation Business Unit, Juniper Networks.
