BSNL to offer per second billing in post-paid soon

K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad, Nov. 3 After introducing the paisa-per second in the pre-paid segment, the public sector BSNL is now contemplating offering the scheme for the post-paid subscribers as well.

The top honchos of the company are now engaged in talks on the modalities on different schemes and the possible impact on its revenues. “We are going to announce it soon for the post-paid schemes as well,” sources in BSNL told Business Line.

Though he had not indicated any timeline, it is likely to be launched in December.

The company had already introduced the one-second pulse rate scheme in the pre-paid segment in September. The VilaKshan special tariff voucher, priced at Rs 45, offers one paisa-per second (to mobiles and fixed line phones) in the States and two paise-per second for phones outside the State.

They, however, argued that BSNL had launched schemes that almost matched the one-paisa per second pulse rate long ago.

“Take for example the Rs 325 and Rs 525 plans, we offer 15 second pulse rate at just 10 paise or 40 paise a minute. This in fact, works out to be cheaper. And who talks less than 15 seconds,” they wondered.
