RCom, Loop too join per second billing regime

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Nov. 3 Reliance Communications and Loop Mobile said on Tuesday that they would also bill their mobile telephony subscribers on a per second basis.

Analysts attributed this move to the instant success enjoyed by telcos such as Tata DoCoMo, Aircel, Shyam Sistema and more recently Bharti Airtel who have adopted a per second billing regime, where customers pay for their exact usage.

Three segments

RCom has devised the new tariff plan based on three consumer segments determined on the basis of the duration of calls. It has classified usage under short duration calls, long duration calls and standard length calls. For ‘short duration calls’, subscribers can opt for ‘one paise per second’ billing plan. For ‘long duration calls’, RCom is offering calls at Re 1 for three minutes of usage while for ‘standard call duration’ the tariff will be 50 paise per minute.

Subscribers would have the option to choose their billing model, a spokesperson for Reliance Communications said, adding that the tariff plans would be valid for all its mobile subscribers across the country.

Loop Mobile

Loop Mobile customers will be charged one paisa per second for all local and STD calls, the operator announced. While this offer is applicable to all new and existing prepaid subscribers of Loop Mobile in Mumbai, The existing subscribers can recharge with Rs 48 to avail themselves of this plan. Other operators such as Vodafone and Idea Cellular too offer per second billing to their customers but only in select circles.
