Seshasayee Paper launches branded notebooks

R. Balaji

Chennai, Nov. 4 Seshasayee Paper and Boards Ltd is getting into the branded notebooks segment with the launch of ‘Success’ brand of students notebooks.

Along with this, the company also plans to launch a wide range of stationery products catering to the entire requirements of offices and academic institutions.

According to Mr C. Balasubramanian, Head, Business Development, Seshasayee Paper, the company is targeting its prime markets of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala initially. These account for nearly half of the company’s markets which are expected to absorb at least 1,500 tonnes of notebooks in the first year. Seshasayee Paper makes about 1.20 lakh tonnes of paper annually.

The three States consume about 80,000 tonnes of notebooks annually and the market is growing at 6-7 per cent.

The new brand would be benchmarked with that of the market leaders in the notebook segments, he said. Seshasayee Paper has tied up with 8-10 converters in the southern States. The company plans to market 130-150 varieties of notebooks used in schools.

Tie up with institutions

Apart from the traditional distribution channels it will tie-up directly with academic institutions to meet their requirement of entire range of stationery items, he said.

The move is in line with that of large paper manufacturers, who are increasingly getting into manufacturing and marketing of branded products for greater value and margins.

The ‘Success’ brand will also extend into examination papers, the foolscap sheets which will now be available in retail packs. SPB was among the earliest to launch the branded range of foolscap papers in bulk packaging. ‘Success’ brand of ledger papers and letter heads are in the pipeline, Mr Balasubramanian said.
