Power Power PSUs join hands for energy efficiency services
The Minister for Power, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, and the Minister of State, Mr Bharatsinh Solanki, at the Economic Editors’ Conference in the Capital on Wednesday. Our Bureau New Delhi, Nov. 4 The Power Minister, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, said on Wednesday that state-owned power utilities NTPC Ltd, Power Finance Corporation (PFC), Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) have formed a joint venture company to promote energy efficiency projects in the country. “Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has been formed with an equity contribution of Rs 190 crore and will target revenues of Rs 700 crore annually by promoting companies working in the area of energy efficiency,” Mr Shinde said at the Economic Editors’ Conference. The companies would have equal share in EESL, he added. EESL would promote energy efficiency projects such as Bachat Lamp Yojana, Agricultural Demand Side Management and Municipal Demand Side Management. Additional capacityMr Shinde also said that a generation capacity of 62,374 MW is certain to get added in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan that ends March 2012. “In addition, a capacity of 12,590 MW may materialise on best-effort basis during the current Plan. Remaining capacity may be slipping to the Twelfth Plan,” he said. The Government had set a target of adding 78,700 MW generation capacity in the current Plan.
