Hyderabad Nov. 5
The Project Management Institute of India is tailoring an action plan aimed at increasing the supply of qualified and skilled project managers in the existing pool, which is way behind requirement for the mega projects in the pipeline.
The institute has initiated a detailed study to gauge the precise availability of qualified project managers and the demand in the country through an independent research organisation. “We expect to bring out the report by the month-end. It will also focus on the importance of having qualified project managers to ensure that projects do not suffer from delays, which actually are spawning huge losses to the country’s finances,” Mr Raj Kalady, Managing Director of the institute, said. This issue will be the subject for discussion during the first ever Project Management Conference being organised in Hyderabad from November 13-15, 2009. Over 600 project management stakeholders from around the country are expected to participate in the event.
Mr V. Srinivasa Rao, the Chairman of the PM Conference India, said: “In India we waste billions of dollars every year due to ineffective management of projects in different sectors. We have devised a plan to advocate project management in India.”
