Samsung signs MoU with Sahitya Akademi

Kolkata, Nov 5 Samsung India and Sahitya Akademi signed an MoU on Thursday to institute Tagore Literature Awards, named after Rabindranath Tagore, according to a press release by Samsung.

The MoU was signed in New Delhi by Mr J.G. Shin, President & CEO, Samsung South West Asia, and Mr Agrahara Krishnamurthy, Secretary of Sahitya Akademi.

The first Tagore Literature Awards, instituted by the Korean firm, will recognise the best literary contributions in Indian languages, and to start with in Bengali, Hindi, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Punjabi, Telugu and Bodo.

Next year, another eight languages will be covered that by the end of the third year, all 24 Indian languages will be considered for the awards.

The selection of winners will be made by Sahitya Akademi. This year, the announcement will be made in December but the presentation of the awards will take place in 2010.
