Our Bureau New Delhi, Nov. 5 The verbal duelling between RIL senior counsel Mr Harish Salve and RNRL senior counsel Mr Ram Jethmalani intensified further on Thursday in the Supreme Court. As Mr Salve was stating his arguments all over again (due to the withdrawal of Mr Justice Raveendran and the formation of a new Bench to hear the case) in the Ambani brothers’ gas row, Mr Jethmalani intervened to say that Mr Salve was wasting precious time of the apex court by putting forward unnecessary contentions. “We are under a time constraint here. He has argued for around 30 hours and he is continuing to waste the court’s time and the time of the public,” Mr Jethmalani said. To this, the Bench said since they do not have any expert knowledge about the highly technical matter, they need to hear Mr Salve’s arguments and learn about the details mentioned in the voluminous documents. Then Mr Jethmalani said he needed ten minutes at the end of the day’s hearing to cite certain documents to prove the collusion between RIL and the Government in the case. The Court said it would give time to Mr Jethmalani after Mr Salve finished with his arguments. In his response to Mr Jethmalani’s allegations that he (Mr Salve) should be honest to the court and not waste time by making contradictory statements, Mr Salve said “I have a request. Let us not reduce this important case to a street brawl.” Legal fraternity divided over Mr Justice Raveendran’s move Judge recuses from Reliance case Is not public interest involved in gas row, asks Apex Court ‘Taxing’ arguments More Stories on : Corporate Disputes | Courts/Legal Issues | Reliance Industries Ltd
