Sweden offers long-term support in Defence

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Nov. 6 Sweden has assured India of long-term support for the development of defence systems.

In a seminar organised by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr Ewa Bjorling, Swedish Minister of Trade, said, “Sweden is not seeking a buyer, but a strategic partner for long-term cooperation for future defence and industrial development. This would serve as guarantor for independence instead of relying on a single partner.

“We would be happy to share technologies and products with India and also develop new technologies together.”

Mr Gunar Wieslander, Swedish Deputy Minister of Trade, pointed out that India had the requisites to be the partner for Sweden in the defence sector. The Wipro Chairman, Mr Azim Premji, who was present at the event, advised defence companies from both the countries to be transparent in technology transfer deals from the point of view of national safety and called for reasonable transfer pricing of components. “Choose your partners well. Look for companies that have expertise and integrity and build technology transfer and joint ventures based on mutual trust,” he added.
