Hyderabad, Nov 6 The Andhra Pradesh Government is set to unveil some major reforms in healthcare administration, primarily focussing on administration of the government hospitals.

As the first step, the Government will be making it mandatory for supervisory level officials in the administration, such as district medical health officers and deputy DMHOs to have certain exposure to public health. “The idea is to facilitate them to undergo one-year PG diplomas in public health management. We will be tying up with some institutes to execute this programme,” Mr L.V. Subrahmanyam, Principal Secretary (Public Health and Drug Control Administration, said.

He indicated that the reforms will be ready in the next two months. The Government will provide a window up to 2012 for officers to get trained in public health management.

Another step that is being discussed is to have persons with hospital administration qualifications head government hospitals.
