Aquaculture States - Kerala Fishery guidance, now on mobile
Vinson Kurian Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 9 Handygo, a leading wireless solution provider in mobile and value added services (VAS) has started giving fishery-based advisories on the interactive voice response (IVR) platform. The information can be accessed by dialling 55678 and the service is available across the country. EASY ACCESSThis would provide fishermen fast and easy access to oceanic information. The inputs given out pertain to where and when to fish, potential areas of possible good catches and prevailing weather conditions. In order to provide extensive and accurate information, Handygo has tied up with the Hyderabad-based Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (Incois) that provides technical content support. Until now, the fishermen have had to visit the Incois and get the required information, but Handygo is now making this information accessible through their handsets/mobiles. In-house experts and researchers at Handygo process the technical data into information in regional languages and disseminate it across the coastal region. Information on potential fishing zones helps the fisherman locate these zones where the probability of finding fish shoals are more. UPDATED INFOThis goes to make the lives of fishermen a lot easier as they are made aware of the facts and figures before going to the fishing zone. The information is updated thrice on a weekly basis. Information on wind speed gives the fishermen the direction and speed of wind from different coastal regions. The information is updated on a daily basis. Information on wave heights enables fishermen to learn about the variations in height of waves over different set of distances from various nodes. The information is updated on a daily basis. Handygo is also in process of imparting knowledge to fisherfolk, processing workers and technicians in fish quality management, conservation of fish resources as well as sustainable fishing.
