Non-conventional Energy States - Andhra Pradesh Common standards soon for photovoltaic units Our Bureau Hyderabad, Nov. 11 SEMI, the global industry body for semiconductor and photovoltaic industry, and its Indian chapter are in the process of evolving common standards aimed at helping in reducing the cost of implementation of photovoltaic cells for power generation. Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), based in the US, has over 1900 members globally. Its Executive Vice-President of Photovoltaics, Mr Dan Martin, said that the adoption of solar photovoltaic generation units will be faster than most people anticipate in the future. Global standardsPotentially, some of the targets set by countries such as China and India could also well be surpassed. Addressing a press conference here on the concluding day of the three-day Solarcon India, Mr Martin said that SEMI has thus far evolved two new global standards which will help enterprises in faster development and deployment of photovoltaic units across the world. “Significantly, these standards will also play a major role in bringing down the overall cost of deployment, which is coming down by each passing day. In India, the cost per mega watt could be about Rs 15-16 crore. But, this will come down further as per industry estimates,” according to Mr Sathya Prasad, President of SEMI India.
