IMG session on global currency

Institute of Management in Government (IMG), an autonomous body constituted by the State Government here, is organising a talk on ‘Towards a global common currency’ by Dr Sitaram Gurumurthy, Member, Tamil Nadu Planning Commission.

The session is to be held at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday and will last for an hour and a half, according to Dr Ajay Kumar, Director, IMG.

The subject of having a single currency has become relevant, especially in the context of global currencies such as the US dollar and the euro reeling under recession, Dr Kumar said.

Policy makers as well as financial experts across the world are looking towards the formulation of a ‘unique global common currency’ at a time when the world is increasingly becoming a global village with free flow of capital, technology, knowledge, information and services.

Dr Gurumurthy is a retired civil servant and is a well-known expert in the field. He has been addressing several international for a, including the World Bank and the US Federal Reserve, apart from being closely associated with the think tank of the Government of India on fiscal and financial policies.
