Public Sector Banks States - Kerala
Our Bureau Kozhikode, Nov. 15 There has been a 25 per cent year-on-year growth in the total business of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Kerala as on September 30, 2009. The total business of the bank stood at Rs 4,094 crore at the end of September 2009 compared with Rs 3,266 crore at the end of September 2008, according to Mr K.K. Shankar, Deputy General Manager and head of Kerala Circle of PNB. The profit of the Circle climbed by 32 per cent from Rs 14.88 crore to Rs 19.58 crore during the period. The deposits grew to Rs 2,221.13 crore from Rs 1,854.60 crore during the period, recording a year-on-year growth of 19.76 per cent, while the advances increased by 32.68 per cent to Rs 1,873 crore from Rs 1,412 crore. The non-resident Indian deposits were at Rs 259 crore. The priority sector advances went up from Rs 875 crore as on September 30, 2008, to Rs 1,264 crore at the end of September 2009. The ratio of priority sector advances to net bank credit was higher at 67 per cent as against the national target of 40 per cent. The agriculture credit registered a high year-on-year growth of 177 per cent amounting to Rs 501 crore by September-end, 2009, as against Rs 180 crore in the previous year. The credit to the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) grew by 34 per cent to Rs 205 crore from Rs 153 crore during the period, while the retail credit outstanding of the bank in Kerala was at Rs 812 crore as on September 30, 2009. The bank is upgrading five extension counters, located in Kozhikode, Guruvayur, Thrissur, Kollam and Kuttipuram, to branches. It now has a network of 134 branches in the State.
