Bharti Group setting up rural schools

Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Bharti Group, has announced that it would set up 10 primary schools for underprivileged children in rural West Bengal under its flagship Satya Bharti School Program, according to a Bharti release.

The Union Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, on Sunday laid the foundation for the Satya Bharti School in Murshidabad. Mr Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Bharti Enterprises, and Mr Vijay Chadda, CEO, Bharti Foundation, were also present at the event.

Women teachers

Under the Satya Bharti School Program, which aims at providing free and quality education to underprivileged children in rural India, as many as 10 schools covering 2,100 students and employing 60 teachers will be set up in West Bengal. The recruitment will be from the local communities and the focus will be on women teachers, the release says.

Bharti Foundation plans to set up a total of 500 primary schools and 50 senior secondary schools covering 200,000 students all over the country in the next five years.

Of this, 236 primary schools have already been set up in the states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, reaching out to approximately 30,000 students and employing 1,000 teachers, the release adds.
