Kandla port cargo handling tops 50 mt in April-Nov

Ahmedabad, Nov. 24 Kandla port has crossed the 50-million tonne (mt) mark by handling 50.74 mt of cargo from April 1 to November 20, compared with 47.38 mt handled during the corresponding period of last year, thereby registering an increase of 7.1 per cent.

The increase has been under the categories of dry bulk and liquid cargo and in commodities such as salt, thermal coal, phosphoric acid, timber logs and other liquid cargoes, an official of Kandla Port Trust (KPT) said.

A total of 1,655 ships arrived at Kandla Port during the current fiscal, up to November 20, as against 1,449 during the corresponding period of last fiscal.

Kandla is an ISO 9001:2000 certified port and is going to be certified as an ISO 9001:2008 port with effect from January 1.
