BEML Ltd, a Mini Ratna under the Ministry of Defence, is a multi-technology and multi-location company offering high-quality products for diverse sectors such as coal, mining, steel, limestone, power,irrigation, construction, road building and aviation, apart from defence, metro rail and railways. A key partner in core sector projects, it is looking at opportunities to grow as a global brand. It has an expanding international presence in more than 55 countries.

A star exporter, BEML has strengths in handling large-scale trading and counter-trade in engineering and other goods. As part of its global drive, it has established an assembly unit in Brazil and expects it to a springboard to the entire South American market. The Brazil unit will assemble BEML’s products relating to mining and construction, rail and metro; and defence products. Recently, it established an Indonesian unit, Pt.BEML Indonesia. An international office and warehouse in Malaysia have followed, as also an overseas trading office in China. These units are aimed at catering to the requirement of the Asia-Pacific markets. The company next plans to open an office in Australia to increase its global presence and market share. An R&D centre of excellence is being set up for research in the metro rail system in Bangalore. A Rs 30-crore composite R&D centre houses laboratories in fluid power, material science and structural engineering. The company is continuously modernising its shopfloor to deliver world-class products. Its manufacturing facilities at Kolar Gold Fields, Mysore and Bangalore are certified under ISO 9001-2000 series. BEML has ventured into underground mining with products such as site discharge loader, loan haul dumper, winch, winder, Granby car and skip among others. Defence As the nation’s leading defence equipment manufacturer, BEML keeps the Armed Forces equipped with military equipment. The company manufactures variants of Tatra vehicle for all-terrain operations. It has created a world-class track at its KGF Complex to test defence equipment and vehicles. Metro & Railway business In recent years, BEML has forayed into high-tech metro trains that are deployed for intra-city commuting. For the Indian Railways it supplies integral rail coaches, overhead inspection cars, postal vans, AC/DC electric multiple units, stainless-steel EMUs, utility vehicles, track laying equipment, broad-gauge railbus, treasury vans, spoil disposal units, aluminium wagons and standard gauge metro cars. BEML plans to manufacture high-speed rail and metro bogies. It is developing metro cars for Tier II and II cities at significantly lower cost keeping intact efficiency, safety and comfort levels.
