New Delhi, Nov. 27

The mega multi-product trade show of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), India International Trade Fair 2009 concluded on Friday here after drawing large number of businessmen and general visitors for two weeks.

Speaking on the occasion of the presentation of awards for best display at the fair, the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Mr Jyotiraditya M. Scindia complimented ITPO for organising 29th edition of IITF on such a large-scale with innovations and expanded scope of the Trade Fair in various ways.

He described the fair as an iconic event among international trade fairs, which has carved a niche for itself as one of the largest fairs in terms of visitor's participation. He said the country needs to see the global economic crisis as an opportunity to re-orient and reinvent not only its portfolio of products but also its geographic focus.

India's diversified economy and its demographic character as well as the strength of the intellectual ability of its younger generation would also help the country propel itself towards the global economic centrestage.

He said that under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, ITPO, has to play a greater role in export promotion through new initiatives to establish close relationship with major industry associations such as CII, FICCI and Assocham as well as all the Export Promotion Councils.

He said that ITPO would also be playing a significant role in the organisation of the Commonwealth Games 2010 by providing worldclass infrastructure for the Media Centre within Pragati Maidan where almost a thousand media persons would be operating to disseminate news about the Games across the world.
