KVB had commenced operations on July 1, 1916, from the textile hub of Karur. Promoted by late A Venkataraman Chettiar and late Adhi Krishna Chettiar with a seed capital of ₹1 lakh, it has expanded its presence nationwide. As on March 31, 2015, its net worth stood at ₹4,286 crore.

As part of its technology initiatives, KVB has introduced eBook, a mobile app to help customers manage accounts.
