In alliance with the Bombay Goods Transport Association, an association of goods transporters in the western region, Shriram Foundation, the social arm of the Shriram Group, held its 'Education Scholarship Programme' in Mumbai.
The Foundation holds the scholarship programme nationwide, and it provides education assistance to needy children of truck drivers and transporters.
Through the scheme, Shriram Foundation offered financial assistance and scholarships to 238 deserving children of transporters and truck drivers at an event in Mumbai recently.
This is the third year of this initiative that began in Chennai. The company plans to take the programme to other parts of the country. The scholarship support is applicable for children of any school (including Government and private) and would go towards meeting expenses for pursuing school education without any disruption.
U G Revankar, Managing Director, Shriram Transport Finance Co, said though education is an important pillar of a nation, often, the children of truck drivers and transporters are deprived of quality education. "Through the Education Support Scheme, we aim to provide educational support to the needy section of our transporter fraternity," he said.
The Shriram Foundation has evolved through the group's commitment to corporate social responsibility, and aims at women and children empowerment.
