Middle-class paralysed

The Budget comes as a disappointment to retired people and salaried class whose taxes are deducted at source. The income-tax rate has been hiked and rebate under Sec 88 of I-Tax Act 1961 withdrawn. The inclusion of dividend tax at I-T rates has jeopardised the long-term plans of the entire middle class. Prices of all commodities, petroleum products and services, including transport have been raised periodically to meet the Government's fiscal deficit at the expense of the middle-class.
