HYDERABAD, March 21

SATYAM Computer Services Ltd has announced that its Hyderabad-based centres have been assessed and certified under the internationally recognised BS 7799 part 2:1999 information security standards.

This certification is issued by the STQC, Directorate, the Ministry of Communications, Government of India, the accreditation authority for companies in India.

This is the first certification body in the country to offer ISMS (information security management systems) certification services. With this, India is among a select few countries in the world outside the UK and the Netherlands to offer such accreditation certification services.

Mr A.S. Murty, Senior Vice-President-HR and Chief Information Security Officer, said Satyam recognised that business continuity management was vital to ensuring the continuity of services in the event of any disruption.

One of the key components for this is the management of information resources.

``Therefore, it is imperative that this resource is protected adequately so that it can continue to generate value in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Our proactive efforts in this direction through the ISMS initiative and successful certification has become our USP,'' he said.

The certification gives an assurance to customers about the company's comprehensive information security infrastructure and enhances confidence regarding the protection of information assets and ensuring business continuity.

With information security policies and controls becoming vital means of protecting data and knowledge, housed in various forms and media across organisations, many establishments have expressed the need to have a common standard on best practices for information security management.

These security controls ensure they meet the business requirements as well as various security related controls.
