Events Meet on public governance to examine issues Our Bureau
BANGALORE, May 6 PUBLIC governance and strategies for improving organisational efficiency will be the focus of a three-day national conference opening here on May 9. The event organised by the Bangalore Management Association (BMA) along with the All India Management Association marks the BMA's golden jubilee, the BMA President, Mr V.Ammineedu, and the past President, Capt. V.V.K. Mani, said here. In the globalised times, the need is for high quality governance and efficient delivery systems. The national conference on public governance will look at organisations, people working in the public domain and policies changes, procedures, regulations and technology that will enhance the efficiency, said Mr K. Jairaj, Chairman of the conference organising committee and Vice-Chairman and MD of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. Some of the themes for the conference are successful managers; issues in public governance, success stories; technology and e-governance; HR management; citizen's roles, decentralisation and best practices. In contrast to the conventional wisdom that governance is solely the business of the Government, the conference will involve people from the private and public domain in dialogue. It will lead to a public debate and plan of action on public governance, and try to evolve "an actionable agenda for high quality public governance,'' Mr Jairaj said. The BMA hopes to make public governance an annual feature of management meets at the national level, he said. According to Mr Ammineedu, who is also Director of Bharat Electronics Ltd, over 300 delegates are expected to attend the meet including policy-makers at the Centre and the State, industry and commerce leaders and NGOs. Among the participants are Mr R.V. Shahi, Union Power Secretary, Dr Roy Paul, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Mr Pradip Baijal, Secretary, Department of Disinvestment.
