NEW DELHI, June 18 MICROSOFT Corporation India Pvt Ltd today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Madhya Pradesh Government to jointly develop and deploy technology solutions for e-governance in the State. Mr Rakesh Shrivastav, CEO MAP_IT, and Mr Rajiv Nair, President, Microsoft India and Senior Strategic Advisor, Microsoft Asia, in the presence of the State Chief Minister, Mr Digvijay Singh, at Bhopal, signed the MoU. With the signing of the MoU, the Madhya Pradesh Agency for Promotion of Information Technology (MAP_IT) attains the status of a strategic Microsoft technology partner for the State Government which will be involved in consulting, developing and executing systems integration projects on Microsoft technology. As a part of the agreement, Microsoft, in turn, is to invest in skills transfer on Microsoft products and technologies to MAP_IT. According to a Microsoft press release here, the MoU entails the setting up of two `centres of excellence' for e-governance in Bhopal based on Microsoft technologies jointly by Microsoft and MAP_IT. While the first such centre was inaugurated by the Chief Minister at the Noronha Academy of Administration immediately after signing of the MoU, the second centre is to be set up at the Rajiv Gandhi Prodyogiki Vishwavidyalaya. The two centres for e-governance are to showcase an array of Microsoft products and solutions and demonstrate the interoperability of its products with other platforms. These centres will also facilitate the State Government and the university to conduct technical training sessions for Government personnel. As part of the MoU, Microsoft is committed to advise the State Government on the various e-governance applications that are available today and recommend those which are most suited for the State. It is also committed to facilitate the implementation of specific applications for the State Government, including a file tracking system for the State Secretariat and an executive information system for office automation needs of senior decision-makers in the Secretariat. Microsoft, according to the press release, will also initiate the setting up of a steering committee that will enable the State Government to develop an IT road map for the next three years. The blueprint, among other things, is to lay the foundations of e-governance, application development, e-health services, IT infrastructure upgrade, resource mobilisation, redeployment, planning and execution.
