Plastindia 2003 draws 502 bookings

MUMBAI, Sept. 5

PLASTINDIA Foundation, Mumbai is organising Plastindia 2003 - the fifth international plastic exhibition and conference from February 15 to 20, 2003 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Around 1,475 exhibitors from all over the world are expected to display their products and services, occupying a gross exhibition area of 53,000 square meters in Plastindia 2003. The exhibition is expected to attract a record million visitors.

There will be all the usual features like international conference, international buyer-seller meet, and plasticon awards for private seminars. There will also be a meeting of the Asia Plastic Forum countries during the exhibition.

As on date, 502 exhibitors have been already booked a space of 18,823.50 square meters. Out of which, about 36 are from overseas and about 466 from India, according to the foundation.

"The Indian plastic industry is expanding at a phenomenal pace. It is a full-fledged industry which is all geared to set new records. The current per-capita consumption of 4.1 kg is likely to rise 7.9 kg by 2006," Mr Shyam Tibrewal, president of Plastindia Foundation, told newspersons here.

"The demand for plastics is escalating by leaps and bounds and soon India will emerge as one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. The market size of polymers industry is estimated to be around $80 billion. India can produce 4.7 million tonnes of polymers annually and is expected to grow by 10-12 per cent annum," he said.
