Truck, bus tyre production up in June

NEW DELHI, Sept. 6

TRUCK and bus tyre production in the country surged in June 2002 to touch a level of 7.98 lakh units.

This represented a 4.86-per cent increase from 7.61 lakh units recorded in May 2002. The domestic tyre industry had recorded a production of 7.81 lakh truck and bus tyres in June 2001.

According to the latest data released by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) here today, average monthly production of truck and bus tyres slipped to 7.57 lakh units during April-June 2002 as against 7.60 lakh units in the same period during the previous year.

Truck and bus tyres segment accounts for more than 70 per cent of the turnover of the domestic tyre industry.

On the passenger car tyre front, ATMA members recorded production of 6.93 lakh tyres in June 2002 as against 6.46 lakh tyres in May 2002. ATMA members had manufactured 6.26 lakh passenger car tyres in June 2001.

The average monthly production of passenger car tyres during April-June 2002 stood at 6.57 lakh tyres as against 6.13 lakh tyres in April-June 2001.
