NEW DELHI, Sept. 16

LEADING science and biotech parks in the United Kingdom (UK) have expressed interest in collaborating with Indian partners for setting up a biotech park in Andhra Pradesh.

In a statement, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has said that the Cambridge Park in the UK and the ICICI Knowledge Park in Andhra Pradesh are already exploring possibilities of such a collaboration.

This is one of the major outcomes of the recent CII biotech mission's five-day visit to the UK which ended on September 13. The visit has helped initiate a dialogue between the Centre of Excellence in the UK and the Indian biotech industry. Besides, the Institute of Biotechnology and Applied Bioinformatics (IBAB) is exploring the possibilities of taking students for internship in companies like Astra Zeneca, Astex, Cambridge University and Newcastle University.

The mission was led by the Chairperson and Managing Director, Biocon India, Ms Kiran Mazumdar Shaw.
