Infrastructure SILK to construct rubber dam Aravindan
KOTTAYAM: The Steel Industries Ltd Kerala (SILK) a public sector undertaking has started the preliminary works of the rubber dam at Trichur. A memorandum of understanding has already been prepared by the SILK and Hydro Constructs, Austria a world-renowned rubber dam construction company. The Austrian company would share the technology with silk for constructing rubber dams in major rivers of Kerala. During the last 30 years most of the countries in Europe and Asia have been constructing such dams according to a study conducted by SILK. The cost and time for construction of rubber dams is considerably low compared to concrete dams. The main raw materials are synthetic rubber and natural rubber. The construction works could be completed in 6 months, claimed SILK. Along with a series of projects in Bharata Puzha, Periyar etc, SILK would also undertake the projects in Thrissur and Palakkad.
