The Hindu Business Line : MoST okays land for Kochi SEZ

THE Union Ministry of Surface Transport (MoST) has given its nod for releasing 600 hectares of land held by the Cochin Port Trust (CoPT) for setting up the proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Kochi.

This was announced by the Director-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Mr L. Mansingh, while addressing a seminar. The minimum area usually demanded for setting up an SEZ is 1,000 hectares.

However, this was being reviewed in the case of Kerala, where getting land for any project is a difficult proposition.

Setting up SEZs where industries could function in an internationally competitive environment is part of the Centre's new initiatives to boost exports, Mr Mansingh added.
