NEW DELHI, Sept. 20

THE fourth international travel and tourism mart, which has attracted participation from about 400 buyers and sellers from around the globe, is scheduled to open in the Capital on September 27.

In a statement, the Department of Tourism has said that the mart will offer an opportunity to showcase various aspects of Indian tourism as well as promote various destinations. While Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Uttaranchal are participating as partner-States in the three-day show, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu are participating as focus-States.

Apart from this event, the Government is also holding other events to promote tourism in the country, including an Indian interline golf championship.

Besides, with the World Tourism Organisation having declared 2002 as the year of Eco Tourism and Mountains, the department has taken up various activities to create awareness about eco-tourism, which include holding spot painting competitions for children in each State capital.
