KOLKATA, Nov. 27

LEADING producer of thermoware items, Milton Global Ltd, has set a turnover target of Rs 225 crore for the current financial year. It marks a growth of Rs 25 crore from the previous year, 2001-02.

This was announced by Mr M.B. Vaghani, Managing Director of Milton Global, who was in the city along with Ms Smriti Irani, a TV personality, to launch new products. Ms Irani plays the role of Tulsi in the TV serial, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She has been Milton Global's brand ambassador for more than six months.

Milton Global has also introduced a range of glassware items under the brand name Treo. However, the items are not manufactured by the company but imported from Germany, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia.

"We chose to enter the glassware industry because the target customer and trade channel are the same. We hope to garner a 15 per cent market share in the glassware sector," Mr Vaghani said.

Of the targeted Rs 25-crore growth in turnover, Rs 15 crore may come from glassware and the rest from traditional products. According to Mr Vaghani, this is a "modest but achievable" target. Moreover, he said, the thermoware products market is currently suffering from a demand recession.

Milton Global's market share is claimed to be over 50 per cent. It exports its products to the US, Europe, Africa and West Asian countries. There are over 500 items in Milton's product portfolio and it will launch over 24 items this year to meet the changing demands of the customers.

Milton Global has an exclusive all-India licence from Walt Disney to promote its products using their characters. The company can also produce look-alike items of Mickey Mouse or Pooh. It is a two-year contract and was signed in 2001. "The contract will renewed regularly," Mr Vaghani said.
