Natural Calamities Central drought assessment team arrives in Kerala Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Dec. 8 A SEVEN-MEMBER official team from the Centre has arrived with a mandate to assess the drought situation resulting from the failure of this year's monsoon in the State. The team, headed by Mr S.K. Ojha, Joint Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Co-operation, will visit Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad and Ernakulam districts over the next four days, an official spokesman said. The Central team will also hold discussions with the State Revenue Minister, Mr K.M. Mani, and the Chief Secretary, Mr Chandrasekharan Nair, prior to preparing a detailed report to be submitted to the Centre. The State Government had recently sent the latest of a series of official-level delegations led by the Revenue Minister to New Delhi seeking drought relief assistance of Rs 1,035 crore.
