TN to set up biomass-based power projects

Our Bureau

CHENNAI, Dec. 8

TAMIL Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA), has called for applications from private promoters to set up biomass-based power projects, according to a TEDA release.

TEDA has completed studies to assess the potential for biomass availability in 49 taluks.

It has identified areas where power projects with 2-5 MW capacity or more than 5 MW capacity can be set up.

The State Government is hoping to encourage establishment of biomass-based power projects.

The Central Government offers interest subsidy and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board will extend evacuation, wheeling and banking facilities. Captive projects will also be considered.

Promoters wishing to set up such projects in other taluks based on assessment of biomass potential by consultants can also apply, the release said.

The application and a compact disc containing the assessment report are available with TIDCO and can be obtained on a payment of Rs 5,000. The filled-in applications will be accepted up to December 27.

Promoters will be short-listed based on financial and entrepreneurial capabilities and the quality of proposals.
