AirTel launches increased roaming

CHENNAI: AirTel announced the expansion of the roaming facility for its AirTel Magic prepaid customers into the northern and western parts of the country.

Customers can now increase their roaming reach into Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

AirTel also launched the facility for sending language SMS to cover nine languages - Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali and Gujarati.

According to Mr Raja R. Peter, General Manager (Marketing), SMS has really become the language of the heart of the young people all over the country. "Now they can convey their feelings in their mother tongue."

He said in Chennai city alone around 1.5 lakh SMS messages are sent out every day. This increased to around 4.5 lakh messages on festival days. SMS messages will continue to be charged at one rupee for the sender and free for the recipient.
