Events Meet on business computing from Friday Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Dec. 18 THE Thiruvananthapuram Chapter of Computer Society of India and the Kerala IT Mission, the official implementing agency of the State Government, will co-host the society's Business and Industry Group meet 2002 (BIG 2002). The Industries Minister, Mr P.K. Kunhalikkutty, will inaugurate the main conference at the Residency Towers at 9.30 a.m. on Friday, according to Mr Amarnath Raja, Chairman, Thiruvananthapuram Chapter. BIG 2002 has three components, including a series of pre-conference tutorials. Two pre-conference tutorials will be held on Thursday in the forenoon and afternoon sessions. The topics will be `Six Sigma techniques for quality process management' and `Web services: the emerging standards'. The main conference will be on `Emerging paradigms in business computing', which will be run through two full-day sessions on Friday and Saturday. The conference will comprise selected papers presented by authors, invited presentations and a few industry/vendor demonstrations. According to Mr Raja, business computing is faced with new challenges thrown up by the changing market and economic conditions. This conference has been necessitated as much by the necessity to equip professionals and Chief Information Officers with the right knowledge to effectively face these challenges in their operating environments as by the need to generate an understanding of the emerging opportunities in areas such as business process outsourcing, workflow management, Web services, Net-based financial services and IT-enabled services. The conference is primarily aimed at functionaries and executives in business and industry and those in the Government interested in the business impact of computing technologies. It will showcase new-generation technologies and trends in business computing and will illustrate, through invited papers and case studies, their application in the Indian context, Mr Raja said.
