ISPs Dishnet unveils DSL services in Kolkata Our Bureau
KOLKATA, Dec. 19 DISHNETDSL Ltd has extended its footprint to eastern India launching its Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Internet services in Kolkata. The service will be extended to other cities in the region in the coming months, according to Mr Brahma Reddy, Chief Technology Officer of DishnetDSL Ltd. Addressing a news conference here, Mr Reddy said the DSL technology is a broadband technology service, which is user-friendly and facilitates handling of huge data files. The DSL technology does not utilise the telephone network for Internet access and the access is available 24 hours of the day. In fact, DSL is said to be 25 times faster, compared with dial up-connections. The service would be available for Rs 995 a month. DishnetDSL has earmarked a corpus of Rs 30 crore that would be spent on infrastructure in Kolkata. The company is hopeful of attaining a customer base of over 3,500 by the end of the current fiscal. The number of dail-up Internet users in Kolkata at present has been pegged at 18,000. ``We are hopeful that at least 25 per cent of them will choose us as their service provider by April next year''.
