Software Embassy hopeful of Polaris officials' early release Our Bureau
CHENNAI, Dec. 19 THE Indian Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, is hopeful of the release of Polaris Software Lab top officials Mr Arun Jain and Mr Rajiv Malhotra. It may be recalled that the Indonesian authorities arrested the duo, based on a complaint from Bank Artha Graha, Polaris' client. Speaking to Business Line from Jakarta, Mr Amar Sinha, Charge d'Affaire at the Indian Embassy said, "We have just returned from a meeting with the Chief Protocol. The authorities are coming around. We are fairly hopeful that they would release Mr Jain and Mr Malhotra. They accept our view that this is a business dispute and that no criminal charges need be made." He added that if released, the two are free to leave for India since no criminal charges will be made. According to him, "the legal channels are open" and that Mr Jain and Mr Malhotra would be available for interrogation later, if required. Meanwhile, Polaris Software on Thursday released a statement saying that though Mr Jain and Mr Malhotra maintained outward appearances of good health, a week in police detention "had taken its toll". It said, "Mr Jain is understood to have become weak and may require medical attention if the detention continues any longer".
