The conference will examine how global technology trends are impacting the Indian IT industry and the opportunities for the industry.

NEW DELHI, Dec. 26

THE National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) has said that over 20 international Chief Information Officers (CIOs) from Fortune 500 companies will be participating at its annual IT conference to be held in Mumbai during February 11-14, 2003.

Some of the global CIOs who have already confirmed their participation for the conference, dubbed `Nasscom 2003,' include Mr Al Noor Ramji, Executive Vice-President and CIO, Qwest Communications; Mr Mark Popolano, Senior Vice-President and CTO, American International Group and Mr Subhash Valanju, Vice-President and CIO, Johnson Controls, Nasscom said in a statement here.

Other international customers who will be participating at the conference will include Mr Jeff Berg, Executive Director - Programme Management, Citibank, and Mr Jan Aase, Director - Resourcing Strategy, American Express.

Nasscom has also invited international analysts such as Gartner, academicians such as Prof Bala Balachandran from Kellogg School of Management and consultants from McKinsey and Co and Mr A.T. Kearney to provide insights on key business and technology trends to Indian software vendors at the conference.

"Despite the downturn globally, the Indian software and service industry has recorded good performance and continued to win international customers. But the need of the hour in this tough business environment is to forge strong customer partnerships and develop expertise in new service lines. Keeping this in mind, we have invited global customers and consultants to participate in Nasscom 2003 who will provide insight on their strategies and priorities which is what Indian vendors are looking for" said Mr Kiran Karnik, President of Nasscom.

The conference will examine how global technology trends are impacting the Indian IT industry; the opportunities for the industry by geography, vertical segments and technology platforms.

"The participation of these CIOs will not only provide us an opportunity to showcase our horizontal and vertical expertise to them but also will help understand the dynamics of each vertical and how IT is enabling them to derive business advantages,'' Mr Karnik said.

The Union Minister for Communications and IT, Mr Pramod Mahajan, will inaugurate the conference.
